About The Stockport Canalboat Trust
![]()
New Horizons was commissioned in 1981 by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. It is operated by a registered charity, Stockport Canal Boat Trust for Disabled People [Reg. Charity no. 1075844], created by the then Mayor of Stockport the late L. Gordon Bayley M.B.E. whose charity appeal raised the money to build this specially designed boat.
Operating a canal boat is not just time consuming, it's expensive. The Trust currently has an operating deficit of about £12,000 a year.
The Trust is financially independent of the Local Authority. It depends entirely on donations, bequests and sponsorship from individuals, businesses and charitable organisations to meet its operating cost.
