23/11/11 . . . ANNUAL OPEN MEETING . . .

This was held at the Marple Social and Forces Club (formerly Royal British Legion) at Top Lock, Marple.

The meeting opened at 20-00hrs with a summary by the Chairman, James Dunlop, who thanked all the volunteers who kept the project going especially Sue and Bob for their fundraising efforts and Peter who carried out much that was above & beyond the call of duty.
The situation regarding the mooring seemed to have gone quiet for the time being and British Waterways were being turned into a charitable body something like the National Trust.
Unfortunately the Treasurer, Stuart Hodgson was unable to attend the meeting due to unavoidable family commitments but the Chairman was able to report that the financial situation was stable with expenses and income approximately equal and similar to the previous year.

Donations for use of the boat would be kept at the same level as the previous two years.
The lift, a major part of our accessibility equipment was needing substantial repair and would be attended to during the winter.

Sadly, it had to be announced that Willie Webb (T. W. Marine), our technical advisor had died suddenly during the year.
Willie was involved with the original building of the boat and a mine of information who knew the boat in great detail and would patiently explain things to those of us less knowledgeable.
A true gentleman who will be much missed for his personality as well as his technical expertise.

SKIPPERS REPORT 2011

This has been a very busy year.
January was spent on the mooring, building a new fence with gate and also erecting four flag poles.
A shelter with seat was built in memory of Dave Capp.

The new flags were made with the 30 year logo on. A banner for the mooring gate was also made and spray covers for the front of the boat. Plants were donated by various people.

The interior of the boat was painted. Work tops in the kitchen and toilet areas were fitted. A display unit was built for Sue's products to sell. Seat covers were made and donated by the Marple Business Forum. The front, back and sides of the boat were painted. The above activities helped to ensure that the boat and the mooring were ready for the start of the season.

April, being the start of the season was nearly fully booked. The 30th Anniversary party in April was a great success and very well attended. In May the batteries for the lift had to be replaced. The Mayor was taken out for her annual trip in May.

In June a new alternator had to be supplied and fitted. The remainder of the season was well subscribed and successful. During September the lift motor started to 'play up' and is has been decided to have the motor re-conditioned. This will be completed out of season.

Two skippers and five new volunteers have joined the team, and I would like to welcome them aboard.

I would like to thank all the skippers and volunteers for all their help and support throughout the season, it is much appreciated.
A special thank you to Dave Sherratt who has helped me do all the work on the boat and mooring.

In March 2012 New Horizons goes into dry dock for work to be carried out on the rudder. Whilst in dry dock it is my intention to paint the hull with help from volunteers.
